Doodles and Dribble for today

Image Copyright (c) Debbie Chilton

Three Crosses

Three crosses stand empty,
Two once held thief’s,
One lifted his head to see Christ,
They other now would never know peace.

Battered and bruises, covered in blood,
Scarily look human and facing deft,
The thief lifted his head to see Christ,
Grant a pardon in paradise they would meet.

The other hung silent not saying a word,
Heavy with sin eternal death was his curse,
The other thief lifted his head to see Christ,
Blinded by sin the silent thief left this earth.

What about you, what do you see?
Three empty crosses,
Two once held bodies of thieves,
The other of Jesus who die for the lost.

Where are you going, where will you be?
Which thief will you follow into eternity?
Have you lifted your head to meet the risen Christ,
Ask for your pardon to meet with Him for eternity.

What is Art?

What Is Art and How do we create it?

Are questions we being trying to define in our Friday afternoon art group.  We are a small group of artist who meet every two weeks to do what we love, 'creating and telling stories through art'. To really understand the full meaning of that statement you need to meet my friend, I'll call 'The Joker".

We meed at an accessible venue with is convent for the 'wheelies' (like really crazy) people in the group.  As we begin to explore the world of art we have looked at different mediums, how to mix colours an discussed texture   We are currently exploring recycling objects or things taken from the environment to works of art.

Last week we took a beach theme as we played with sand, shells and waves.  The stories . . . let's just say the presence of gogglie eyes means someone is hidden the the picture being created!  How much we are progressing on discovering 'What Is Art' I think our attention is held captive by story tellers.

As our work is incomplete (well mine is anyway . . .) Its there ready to pick up next week. So at home I've started another one.

It currently looks like this:-

May-day! May-day!

My boat has hit a rock and is sinking fast and yes there will be eyes lost in the waves.  So keep an eye out to see how this picture develops.

Don't forget many of my artworks are on sale and can be purchase and paid for online or in person by phoning 0421 401 788.  Drawings can be purchased framed or unframed. With Christmas coming up you may be stuck for original ideas.  To contact me just use the contact form on the tool bar or message me facebook.

Cheers,
Debbie

Movement

Walk This WayWater Color Pencil

This is another project I am working on at present.  'Walk This Way!' is designed to create movement within the artwork itself.  These figures were originally dubbed by art tutor Fallen Angles, during a life drawing session.  Lucky for me the end product was not to reflect like, but enable us to create 'movement' with in a piece   In this artwork the same figure is walking across the page.

In other works I may add another figure to create a sense of movement.
Let's Dance
The same figure is used again in a different format and on black paper for effect!

Doodler's Update

In case you noticed there was no post last week, I thought I better provide one . . . now rather than later.  Setting up a new business is not easy and marketing some times takes a while to get the word out there!

So we decided on Friday we didn't have the numbers to run the ArtISability Program.  What is ArtISability I here you ask? ArtISability is a professional development program for artists living with a disability or mental health issues.

It a program I have to designed for visual artists with disabilities to provide training in accessible venues and a supportive learning environment if your interest you can visit our website.

So let's say a few things went paired shape last week and I didn't make my drawing class or what is art  group.  But I made the life drawing class yesterday . . . Yeah let's just say it's not my thing.  I luckily have one piece I can use to develop an abstract piece - being dubbative fallen angels!

Note to tutor the reason I am not an illustrator is I don't do repetition!  ErrrH!  I need to reciprocate pictures!  Not happening!!! Well may be . . . Just had a thought magnification of error repeated! Might work?

Stage 1

Ok so I'm working on that! In the meantime this happened

Well off to doodle some more,
Debbie!

Who said oils aren't oils?

A small group of artist's with disabilities again meant yesterday as we continued to ask the question what is art?  Most of us discovered we liked the texture and the more complex imagines it thinker medium allows us to create.  The fumes from the medium used to think the paint we're not so sure of . . .

I don't have any pictures of my work this week as we saw oil paints take a long time to dry.  Besides I am still working on my master piece.  We are beginning to explore picking a project to work on over the next couple of month's.  I took in a few pieces the group might be interest in trying some new techniques.

As artists we meet to discussed new products and techniques, encourage one and another and as one member said 'its nice to belong to a group of people who won't size you up and judge what you can achieve based on your disabilities,'

And who knows one day we might agree on what art it! Or not!

Poet's Fears!

                             The smell of spring

Ahrr! Hum! What is that smell in the air?
I smell it! I smell it! I smell it everywhere,
That fresh smell you smell as you step out the door,
No! Not that fresh smell you smell as you hear the sea raw,

Its like something band new . . .
No! Not like that blue car that is Sue’s,
I mean ‘fresh air and new’ mixed together,
Like it’s something to do with the weather,

That smell! That terrible smell,
A smell I smell and my eyes begin to well,
And the my eyes being to itch,
And the runs through my nose that twitch.

That smell! That dam smell,
As the fluid in my nose begins to swell,
Dripping out the other end,
And the tickle in the back of my throat descends.

Its then I . . . sneeze and sneeze, and sneeze some more,
And then cough . . . the coughing begins to raw,
Now the waters running from my eyes,
I sneeze, I sneeze and I can tell you why.

Its spring and everything’s about to sprout,
That’s it! That is that dam smell, I shout!
Nice clean fresh air they all talk about,
Arrh. . . Tooo! Nooooooooo! Its spring! I shout.

That’s what that dirty rotten smell I smell,
That nice clean, fresh and new smell, I could smell,
What did I say. . . I only smell it this time year,
That smelly smell that bring my eyes to tears.

The smell of spring!

Some Dribble

I come without a guarantee

I know I’m not a robot because,
There is no central processing unit,
My thoughts are independent of others
I feel – knowing hot from cold,
Sometimes I feel pain and my muscles hurt.
I don’t imagine robots feel pain.

I know I’m not a robot because,
I experience feelings . . . .
I have times where I feel happy,
Experiencing joy and sense of freedom,
I know sorrow too . . .
I don’t imagine robots know what sorrow is.

I know I am not a clone because,
No one else looks like me,
No one talks like me,
No one acts how I react,
Or reproclates my sense of dress,
I don’t imagine a clone who mirrors me.

I know I am not a colon because,
If I was I’d get them to do the things I hate,
My editing, accounts and tax forms too,
I have them do my physio,
And balance my diet for me . . .
I don’t imagine a clone would do these things for me.

I think I am human . . .
For I know my thoughts are mine,
I come with personality,
Although some wish I didn’t tease,
I come with a sense of purpose,
Yes, I think I am a human.

I think I am human . . .
For I come with lots of faults,
Nothing seems to come scripted,
At times I experience meltdowns,
It is then I appear irrational,
Yes, I think that makes me human.

But at times I feel confused . . .
Like when people stare at me,
So perhaps I am a work of art,
Or they seem to look through me,
So perhaps I am a plane of glass,
These reactions cause confusion.

But at times I feel confused . . .
When others ask me to perform,
On auto pilot program,
Like a robot who is without thought,
Or behave like other clients,
I am confused neither being a robot or a clone.

You see I like you am a human being,
I think independently and come with a personality,
I feel – happiness and joy, but I know of sorrow too,
I come with sense of purpose, knowing what I do,
I too come with faults and unpredictability,
These are things that assure me, I am a human being.

Yes! I am you’re client but . . .
Different to the one ─ the shift before,
I am an individual with my own personality,
Whether verbal or non-verbal regardless of degree of intellect,
I have my own thought processes,
Yes I am your client but come without a guarantee.

Experimenting with colour

Today in the "What is Art group?", some of us began experimenting with acrylic paint.  In order to become familiar with the texture and consistency of the medium we created our colour wheels. This game the guys who are beginners a chance to practice mixing colours.

We talked a bit about primary, secondary and tertiary colours. The following are examples of colour wheels.

The challenge today was to paint a flower only using the primary colours and white. Black and white are not depicted in the colour wheel as the reflect light.  When we think about the the rainbow, which is a reflection of light we don't see black and white.  On a continuous spectrum from white to black, we see a representation of the presence of light through to complete absence of light. Which is represented by black.

The addition to these when mixing colours gives us light and shade, adding definition to our work.  As we continue to journey on our 'what is art' exploration the guys are keen to try oil painting next time.

Doodles of the week

Garlic in water colours exercise

It's Friday the 13th so we doodled garlic to keep the baddies away, in our art group today!  No we didn't I just thought of that and it sounded good!  No art group today was filled with meeting new friends sharing artists secrets, cake and coffee.

We continue to experiment with water colours and masking fluid with and blog post I found.  My attempt is picture above.  I see an improvement in the last two weeks.  Some of the some are new to art so next fortnight week we're moving on to experimenting with acrylics.

As part of Disability Act week I was invite to put a artwork in the Artability display in Toowoomba. My work was featured in the old Toowoomba Town Hall window.

Good Eye vs Evil Eye!

Well I off to doodle some more . . . Let me know if you like to purchase my painting . . .

Exploring Water Colours

Our "What is Art?" group meet today to explore watercolors.  Most of us were exposed to water colours growing up.  You may remember the dry colour circles you added water too when we were growing up.

These during my research this week are known as dry water colours.  Water colours also come in tubes.

I enjoyed playing with water colours day.  Shading is a simple process with water colours as to lighten the shade we just add water and the outline can be darken by a thinker mixture of the paint. While we were adjusting to the medium we used squares to block in and gradually a few of us did hibiscus flowers. A perfect practice session in shading.

Focus on Ability

For those living with disabilities much of our lives focus around organizing support needs to maintain an active community life.  Its easy to lose sight of our achievements and abilities.  When life is focused on overcoming limitations, the shine of ability can be tainted.

Events such as disability action week ( 8th to 13 th) September and International Day for People with Disabilities should not be about of limitation but about celebration and embracing life.  This year the Ipswich community had ditched the traditional free entertainment for those with disability in favor of an inclusive event for everyone.  We're gathering around the abilities of those living in the community.

We believe everybody has the ability to shine at some level.  For some its in the area of advocacy, others like to entertain us through music song and dance. Many others shine on the sporting field and year well . . . we all know my passions lie in the arts.  Whatever your ability, whatever your skill level, maybe your just learning . . . that's cool! Your invited to come gather with us to focus on ability rather than disability!

Professional Development

I am currently undertaking a 12 month professional development program with Access Arts.  I am exploring the possibility of becoming an arts worker.  My major field of interest is in the visual arts, but those who followed my rising star journey will know by nature I am a very creative person. My next major project is "Gathering Around Ability" in Browns Park, North Ipswich.  We all the locals are invite to come and embrace our abilities.  Whether that be sporing, acting, signing, dance, painting.
Where every you abilities lie or what ever you enjoy doing, come enjoy being alive with us on the 26th September.  Remember we're not celebrating our disabilities but embracing the abilities each of us has.  You don't need to have a disability to embrace you abilities!

Meanwhile on the journey to become an arts worker I have just completed an RADF grant application to run a visual arts professional development program for artists living with disability and mental illness. If successful I be very busy running the program over the next three months!.

How does payment for art work transpire?

For most people who purchase items on the internet most people prefer to pay for goods electronically for convenience. If you know me and see me regularly cash payments are fine. However if you live a little further a field, the payment options are outlined on Debbies Details Page.  So let's say you like to buy the artwork featured above. You could :-
  • Leave a comment under the photo
  • email me for a postage quote
  • I will then email you an invoice
  • You can pay by direct debit, paypal or in person (or course if its in person there no postage fee).
  • Once I received you payment I will post the artwork to you.
If there's anything you need to know, just ask.

Cheers,
Debbie

Challenges

Hi There!

I was once in a habit of spending hours and hours drawing flowers, especially roses. As I was growing up my parents noticed that, the one way to make me more determine to achieve something was to tell me I couldn't do something.  I never stopped trying until I proved that to be true for myself. However, occasionally I proved them wrong.  You can call that what you like, determination or stubbornness, they both work for me.

Anyway even today I still love a challenge and often need one.  My friend got tired of seeing butterflies everywhere.  She asked if I could draw a monkey?  I wasn't too sure.

And then I asked if that was a challenge?

And she said, 'Yes!'

And this was the result . . .

"Say Monkey!"

If you have time visit Debbie's Den and see some of my more recent artworks. Or you might like to leave me a challenge by writing a comment below.

Cheers!
